More than the Music

Choir.

A choir is known for singing chorale music and is usually affiliated with religious songs. I am not going to argue with that since it is what choirs basically do: Sing during mass. But there is more to choirs than singing religious songs.

(Yes we have Classes. It's Music Theory)
I am a part of the Ateneo College Glee club for one whole school year and I can say that I had experienced a lot. There were happy times and frustrating times and there are times that I just want to quit. Rehearsals end late, some engagements end even later, rehearsals during break times, rehearsals on a weekend, buying clothes and make-up for performances..etc

People might be wondering why I still stay despite the activites we do. Well, I love singing in a choir and I think I'll be lonely and empty once I won't be able to do it. But aside from the singing part of the org, I still stay despite all of those things because of the choir itself.

ACGC Trainee Batch 2011-2012

Being in a choir and experiencing different events together like planning for concerts, rehearsals, hanging out before rehearsals, and of course singing will create a bond between members that is hard to break. Personally, I planned on quitting as soon as I got in because I thought that it will be such a hastle for me but as I attended rehearsals, get to know the people behind the music, and be immersed with the music. I was smitten and I can't (and hopefully won't) go away.

The Glee club has become a family to me. They are people that I can talk to (just as long I overcome my shyness) and the people who shares the same love for music. I just feel blessed and lucky to have known them and experienced being with them. Hopefully, I will stay with the org until the very end of my college life (and maybe more?

One of those fangirls...
Friday, February 24, 2012   0 ♣

It's my turn now to share my simple joy. :) I'm not quite sure if you can say it's "simple" though but whatever.

Most people do things that help them escape from reality. There are those who read books, who study or who play games. I, however, watch television shows. It can't be taken as a hobby anymore either. It's something like an addiction. Oh, I can go with a day without watching anything but more than that? I don't think I can.

I think I started getting addicted to these TV shows when I was in third year high school, from then on, everything just keeps piling up. Everyday, there's some new episode I have to watch or download. It HAS become a burden but I can't get away from it. :D

Whenever I feel angry or sad or just stressed out by school, I watch an episode of any show that I'm in the mood to watch. I start to become unaware of my surroundings and just concentrate on that episode. That rarely happens, though. But when it does, don't even think of talking to me because I won't hear you at all.

Since I started college, I've made a list of shows to download every single day. I think the only day I don't download anything is on Sundays. Huh. Sundays... I thought I heard a Doctor Who quote coming in but it was about Tuesdays. I forgot now. :( Oh, right! There was about Sundays AND Tuesdays being boring and everything which is quite true, to be honest.

Anyway, every single day I download lots of episodes but I don't watch them all at once. Some have been weeks old and I still haven't watched it. I guess I was never in the mood. In my life, I see and hear everything as if they're shows. Not in that way you're thinking, it's like every word a person speaks, I am remembered of a show - most particularly, Friends.

So. Speaking of "fangirls", I am one. Obviously stated in the title, is it not? :)) I get hooked to a lot of things and when I do, I would talk about it nonstop especially to that person whom I have the same interest in. Sadly though, not many people watch the shows I learned to love so much. Doctor Who, anyone? Sherlock? Merlin? Downton Abbey? I assume not much of you who are reading this have heard of it. If you're on Tumblr though, you would have. I got a thing for British shows now. So much better than the American ones. But of course, there are some American shows worth LOVING. Friends, Lost (even though the ending didn't satisfy me), Chuck (wasn't much of a big fan of S5), Modern Family, and whatever more.

I love being a fangirl. I'm not one of those over-addicted fangirls though who give so much insight into scenes of shows. I love reading those though, so I don't really care that they're like that. :D I love being able to ship those 'ships (relationships) that people start giving monikers to. I love being able to talk about it to people even if it's the only thing in common between us.

The downside to this is that, it has sort of become an obstacle to my studies. I do have time to study, I GIVE time for it but I still can't make my grades higher. I guess that's my brain's problem now, if I have a brain that is. :))

I don't know what this is supposed to do with your lives but I do hope it gave you something to think about. If you're stressed out, look for something you love to do. Don't be such a busy body, you might get something bad from that. 'Til the next time!

Joy Down in My Heart
Saturday, February 18, 2012   0 ♣

Hello, dear reader!
This week and the following, each author of this blog will be sharing his or her very own "simple joys in life." You might also have the same sentiment so stay tuned!

For now, let me share with you about mine. Valentine's Day had just passed and frankly, it's not the flowers or the chocolates that really make the heart smile. It's the simple little things - the time and presence of the person - that leaves a permanent mark. Moreover, what really brings me joy is the mere sight of cute little creatures called puppies!

Muymuy in his last few days (We lost him in 2006.)

I have been fond of dogs for as long as I can remember. It runs in the family. I really cannot explain why but there is something in them that immediately softens my heart. There was even an instance when I got bitten by one, Muymuy (in the picture above), during New Year's eve ten years ago (I was just 7 years old then); yet I still choose to love dogs. I just cannot find it in my heart to hate them. This is why it saddens me when I see dogs being eaten, abused, tortured and killed for no particular reason. Every time there are news reports about animal cruelty, I often think that those heartless people deserve to die a horrible death for mistreating these helpless creatures. Seriously, whatever happened to "A dog is a man's best friend?"

I also recall the time when our family used to own thirteen dogs. When I was four years old,
I would always play with them in the afternoon. Unfortunately, we had to part ways and their death
was a huge blow to me. I was too young then to do anything but cry. Eleven years after that,
I had decided to become a veterinarian (prior to becoming a doctor) because I realized I wanted
to save animals' lives. But eventually, God had other plans for me; and right now, I am currently taking
up Management Information Systems and I do not have pet dogs. These, though, do not stop me
from loving them any less.

The happiness of seeing dogs healthily running around and wagging their tails, hearing their enthusiastic
barks, touching their wet noses and smelling their newly bathed fur are enough to keep me smiling brightly
all day. And last but definitely not the least, the way how they perk up when I spend time with them is the
most priceless simple joy in my life.
