Taking Trains
Saturday, December 17, 2011   0 ♣

You're tired from class and you just want to go home, but unfortunately there's no one to fetch you and so you are forced to commute. It's either you take a jeep or the train. You decide to stick to the trains for today and upon arriving at the Katipunan station you see a lot of people hustling and bustling. You have to go to Cubao station to transfer trains and when you reach the MRT station there are even more people and the train is packed like a can of sardines.
That is what I experie
nce almost everyday. Tiring? Yes. Frustrating? Of course. But I have to do it since I don't have a choice. Personally, riding the trains is actually better than riding jeeps (considering I have had a number of bad experiences with riding one) plus I can avoid the traffic.

But finding the Simple Joy in this stressful activity is quite challenging, so when I rode the trains again, I had to observe everything and I decided on one thing. The simple joy of finding out that people are still courteous.

When I go inside the LRT, there are guys sitting on the seats but usually, a nice gentleman
offers his seat to me, which practically screams 'chivalry is not dead'. Not only that but I see other people offering their seats to elders and to people who are with
children.

In the MRT, riders really do wait for the people from inside the train go out before they go in. I remember one incident when the MRT was really packed and people were lined up to go in, I had to go outside so when I announced that it was my stop, a person said "sandali lang may lalabas!" and then i successfully maneuvered my way out of the train.

These occurrences actually help me think that the world isn't such a bad place after all.
These give me a reason to think that taking the trains isn't that bad.
